New York Times On General Assembly, The Coworking Space

TechCrunch: General Assemb.ly Scores $200,000 Grant To School Big Apple Entrepreneurs

When I was at the General Assembly on Friday, a team from the New York Times dropped by. They took my pictures too, but apparently pictures of me were meant for their private collection. This is the article they put out as a result.

New York Times: General Assembly Aims to Gather New York Techies General Assembly, which has been slowly ramping up this month, is a gleaming combination of co-working space and academic lecture hall, complete with a library, two big open work spaces, bike storage area and several rooms of varying sizes dedicated to conferences and classes. As soon as you step off the elevators, the resemblance to a college campus is clear. The roomy interiors are decorated with plush couches and chairs that can be used for brainstorming and impromptu meetings. ..... The founders had some help getting General Assembly off the ground, including a $200,000 grant from the New York City
Image representing Yipit as depicted in CrunchBaseImage via CrunchBaseEconomic Development Corporation, which has also helped underwrite several other incubators and co-working spaces around Manhattan. Other backers and supporters of General Assembly include Skype, Ideo, Silicon Valley Bank and Rackspace..... General Assembly has three tiers of membership. Entrepreneurs and start-ups can rent desks and work spaces for $500 per month to use as a full-time office, which roughly 90 people already do...... Start-ups that have elected to work out of General Assembly’s offices full-time say that they enjoy the spirit of collaboration and camaraderie that can percolate when one is working near like-minded people who are also trying to get their companies off the ground..... start-ups in the space include Art.sy, a site that pairs collectors with potential purchases; Fashism, a social shopping site; Yipit, a daily deals site; and Food52, a recipe community.
